Arbuthnot can dish up a Plate victory

DESERT SEA can strike a blow for small yards by pro-viding trainer David Arbuthnot with his biggest success in the John Smiths Northumberland Plate at Newcastle tomorrow.

Arbuthnot has twice attempted to win this [pounds]200,000 two- mile contest at 3.20 (see field opposite), finishing third on each occasion, but believes this time he has the right horse for the job.

Ryan Moore was hugely com-plimentary about the five-year-old after steering him to an easy win at Sandown last time.
