Another WVU leader had short stay: ; William Wilson served as president for six months, leaving to serve in Congress

The only West Virginia University president to enter and exit the
leadership post in a shorter time than Mike Garrison had his own
intriguing story.
William Lyne Wilson, a Confederate soldier turned Democratic
bigwig, acted as the university's third president for less than six
months.
When Garrison steps down Sept. 1, he will have served 11 months
as president.
Although Wilson reigned over WVU more than 120 years ago, his
background is similar to Garrison's in that both men were lawyers,
active in Democratic politics and confronted by a storm of public
scrutiny throughout their brief tenures.
