Backgrounder: World Heritage site: Natural System of Wrangel Island Reserve of Russian Federation

SUZHOU, July 3 (Xinhua) - Natural System of Wrangel Island Reserve of the Russian Federation was inscribed on the World Heritage List as a natural heritage at the 28th Session of the World Heritage Committee, scheduled from June 28 to July 7 in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province.

Located well above the Arctic Circle, the site includes the 7, 608- square kilometer mountainous Wrangel Island, 11-square kilometer Herald Island surrounding waters.
