What's the story with the roof?

THE MANSARD ROOF atop the brick building at 67 S. Main St. is like a too-small toupee. Expansions have swallowed the original building, likely built in the 1870s, hiding all but the original roof, which juts out from the more modern flat roof.

The hinged mansard roofs, with steeply angled sides and gables, were popular among people building stately homes on South Main Street in the 1870s.
