So concentrated and reduced is soprano Maria Cristina Kiehr's
epicene voice that it sounds almost too modern for the frilly Baroque
world of lamenting nymphs and shepherds. But Kiehr chooses her
material well, focusing on repertoire that pushes beyond the Arcadian
archetypes. If the narrators of these three extended cantatas seem
