Schools and other key rural services were under growing threat in the West unless more homes were built for local people, the National Housing Federation warned yesterday.

An influx of retired couples and second-home owners to some of the region's most beautiful areas was pricing young families out of the market and threatening the closure of schools, shops and public transport as a result.
