Campaigners in Devon now have just six weeks to save their local post office - but the odds are stacked against them.

Where the cull has concluded in other parts of the country, barely a handful of the hundreds put on "death row" have been spared. And crucially for every branch handed a reprieve, another will be handed a death sentence. The 2,500 target must be reached.

According to Post Office figures, if the planned Devon closures go ahead, rural parts of the area - where 54 per cent of the population live - will be served by a total of 248 branches. Urban areas will be served by 85 branches ...
