After a flurry of bids poured into Dominic Winter Book Auctions
from both sides of the Atlantic, a well preserved copy of Charles
Darwin's On The Origin of Species went for pounds50,000. London-
based dealer Peter Harrington emerged with the prized first
edition, after seeing off bidders from Britain and America at the
auction house at South Cerney, near Cirencester.
