John wins fight to keep solar panels

The environmentally friendly owner of one of the Stroud district's most historic homes has been told the solar panels he installed six years ago can stay.

Last year planners refused John Cowen's retrospective application for the panels at the 500-year-old Over Court in Bisley - a decision that sparked fierce debate locally and nationally.

But after hearing an appeal, Richard Thomas from the Planning Inspectorate said the solar heating tubes should stay.
