will land near the north pole of Mars. It is called Phoenix. To the
unscientific eye, it looks like a giant winged bug. It has three
legs and a 5-foot-wide central science deck. With its two solar
panels deployed, it measures about 18 feet long. It is 7 feet high.
It weighs 772 pounds. Its landing parachute is 39 feet wide. When it
touches down on the Martian landscape, it will have traveled 423
