Conversion of historic barn given go-ahead

A south Devon farming publican has won his planning battle to live in a barn built partly from the wreckage of one of the worst peacetime disasters in the Royal Navy's history.

Ian Pedrick's 240-year-old barn was constructed from timbers salvaged from the wreck of HMS Ramillies, a Royal Navy warship which went down off the South Devon coast with the loss of almost 700 lives.

But when he applied for planning permission to turn the old barn into a family home for him, his wife Emma and their two young children, local planning officers said no - claiming it would mean building in the ...
