Work experience for school pupils could be threatened by "complicated" new checks on employers, a leading business organisation has warned.

The Federation of Small Businesses is urging the Government to back down on plans to force firms to pay for an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check on their staff.

The checks, due to start in October 2009, will mean all employees supervising work experience pupils under the age of 18 will have to get a "seal of approval".
