2 endangered giant elephant shrews make themselves at home at the Peabody?

NEW HAVEN -- The giant elephant shrew, neither giant, elephant, nor shrew, is almost all you need to know about evolution.

Poking through leaf litter in their habitat in the Tree of Life exhibit at the Peabody Museum of Natural History, the two brothers look like a miniature mix of elephant, aardvark and rat.

Their little trunk-like noses poke through dead leaves searching for crickets and meal worms that Jim Sirch tosses into the glass- fronted enclosure.

They're a bit less skittish around Sirch, but are startled by loud sounds and sudden movements. When ...
