Grimsby In Bloom chairman Mr Brown hopes the Heaviest Pumpkin Competition will encourage more people to grow their own vegetables.

He said: "In Bloom is not just about flowers. It's about raising awareness of growing your own and healthy eating."

"I think everybody should grow vegetables. You can grow a lot of vegetables in a small space. If people grow a pumpkin this year, next year they might try tomatoes."
