Stanton C. Martens, 87, died on April 29, 2008 exactly 10 years
to the day after his beloved wife, Alice Cocks Martens, died. He had
declined gradually from that time on due to a combination of sorrow
and Parkinson?s Disease. He had been at ManorCare on Abbeyville Road
for the past six years.
He was born in Chattanooga, TN while his father served in the
Army just across the border in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. He grew up in
the home office of his father, Dr. William S. Martens, and his
mother, Grace Smith Martens, in Peekskill, NY. After finishing high
school there, he went on to graduate from Yale ...
