Few recent events in contemporary music have been as eagerly
anticipated as next weekend's belated British premiere of Luigi
Nono's Prometeo. Widely performed since its premiere in the
composer's native Venice in 1984, this huge work has somehow eluded
British audiences, but is about to make a fitting climax to the
Southbank Centre's 'Fragments of Venice' festival. The two
performances still boast the authentic touch of Andre Richard, the
same 'sound director' who handled the electronic manipulation of
Claudio Abbado's mighty orchestral, choral and solo vocal forces in
the Venetian church ...
