Patricia Martel Stanard, 86, a former social worker who was
active with the Montgomery County Thrift Shop, died March 17 of
pneumonia and peritonitis at Maplewood Park Place, a retirement
facility in Bethesda.
Mrs. Stanard was born in Detroit and attended Stephens College in
Columbia, Mo., before receiving a bachelor's degree in social work
from the University of Michigan in 1945. She worked as a social
worker in the Detroit area before moving to Chevy Chase in 1965,
when her husband took a job with the Labor Department.
