Josephine Eleazar; spirited family to safety

When Japanese forces occupied the Philippines during World War
II, Josephine (Pansacola) Eleazar summoned her indomitable spirit
and shepherded her seven children under cover of darkness to huts in
the mountains out of harm's way.
"My mother was very feisty, a woman of strong convictions," said
her daughter Angela of Brookline.
Mrs. Eleazar, who after the war worked in the Philippines with
the mothers and babies abandoned by American GIs, died March 12 of
an infection after pneumonia at the home of another daughter, Anna
Maria Calingo, in Princeton, N.J.. She was 94 and had lived in
Brookline ...
