2100 dollars produce first sub-Arab taekwondo world title
BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Despite lacking fund to promote
sports, Mali made a splash at the world taekwondo championships here
when Daba Modibo Keita won the men's over 84kg class title.
Keita, who stands 2.04m tall, defeated Morteza Rostam of Iran 3-1
in the final Monday night to give his home country first-ever world
championships gold in the sport.
No one could imagine that the four-man Mali delegation had a slim
budget of 2,100 dollars for this trip.
