Roundup: Bangladesh becomes model of micro credit by Huang Yanan
DHAKA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia
on Sunday highly praised the organizations that are enforcing micro
credit for their efforts to halve the country's severe poverty by
attaining the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Bangladesh is respected for being the birth place of micro credit,
with Grameen Bank first introducing micro credit in 1976 in one
village, lending 27 U.S. dollars to 52 people.
