Uganda's former president Obote dies in South Africa

KAMPALA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan former president Apollo Milton Obote died in a South African hospital on Monday, the government has announced.

President Yoweri Museveni said in a statement on Monday night that the Ugandan government had been informed by the South African government of Obote's death.

Museveni said that the Ugandan government was in touch with the family and the public would be informed of any developments.

Obote has been living in exile in Lusaka, Zambia since his overthrow in 1985.
