LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Fifty years ago today, Walt Disney
opened the gates of Disneyland in a former Southern California orange
grove and forever changed the way Americans would think of family
vacations.
Just as another Chicago native, Ray Kroc, revolutionized the way
Americans eat when he opened the first McDonald's franchise just a
few months earlier, Disney turned $17 million and his vision of the
first theme park (and the ultimate platform to merchandise his
animated characters...
