Arroyo honors late guerrilla movement leader
MANILA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-
Arroyo Thursday honored a leader of guerrilla movement against
Japanese occupation of the Philippines in the 1940s who died on
Wednesday afternoon.
Arroyo said in a statement Thursday that Luis Taruc, founder of
the Hukbong Bayan Laban sa Hapon (HUKBALAHAP) guerrilla movement,
"was not only a fighter for the poor and the oppressed but also a
champion of peace."
