Law could force dog owners to neuter pets
|
SACRAMENTO -- The state Senate approved legislation Wednesday to
grant cities and counties broad powers to force owners of selected
breeds of dogs to spay or neuter their pets -- a direct response to a
growing number of attacks and flood of discarded pit bulls in
shelters.
The Senate's 22-15 vote sent the measure to Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger, who owns two yellow Labradors and a cockapoo. The
governor has not taken a position.
While pit bulls have notoriety, the measure does not target a
specific breed. It leaves it up to cities and counties to
independently determine which breed -- if any -- ...
