The Getty Museum's latest exhibition, "Oudry's Painted Menagerie,"
celebrates 18th-century artist Jean-Baptiste Oudry's remarkable
animal portraits.
It also represents two-thirds of a major restoration project
undertaken by the Getty Conservation laboratories in association with
the Staatliches Museum Schwerin in Germany.
Mark Leonard, head of paintings conservation at the Getty, said
the roots of the project date back to 2001, when members of the Getty
staff were invited to visit several former East German museums. The
purpose of the trip was to explore potential conservation projects.
