Shrublike begonias can be planted almost anywhere

A tour last weekend through a friend's newly installed garden, beautifully decked out in its spring finery, reminded me why I love begonias so much. They are infinitely forgiving, particularly the shrublike begonias she had grown from a cutting I gave her a few years ago.

She had at least a dozen Begonia fuchsioides plants, which are in the same begonia category as another dependable (yet much more common) begonia, B. Richmondensis.

These shrublike begonias will root just about anywhere -- in water, in sponge rock, in potting soil -- or you can just tuck them into the ground in filtered ...
