Louth museum has opened its doors for 2008 - despite being the victim of thieves.

The museum, on Broadbank, was targeted by lead thieves who stole lead slates from its roof on March 28.

But it did not put off museum president David Robinson from pushing ahead with the formal opening for the new season.

The ceremony was overseen by the Mayor of Louth, Coun John MacDonald, who signed the visitors' book.

He said: "I think the museum is very important to Louth, it is a centre for the town.

"There are a lot of Louth artefacts here and if we did not have the museum, we would not have anywhere to put ...
