If Dr. Dolittle were a real person, he might have had a lot in
common with Edward Baker Jenner Sr.
One night when Mr. Jenner's wife of 58 years, Virginia McLaughlin
Jenner, came home, she found a horse resting in their bed. Mr. Jenner
told her she'd have to sleep in the guest room that night because the
horse was sick and needed care.
He was also known to cook special meals for his dogs while letting
family members fend for themselves.
"He'd say, 'You people can take care of yourselves,'" said Luc
Boileau, general manager of Mr. Jenner's farm for 34 years. "The dogs
came first."
