Port-related groups unify to meet environmental and foreign challenges.

Faced with growing environmental challenges as foreign trade expands, the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association announced Tuesday it will merge with the Steamship Association of Southern California.

"It became increasingly apparent to individuals of both organizations that there needed to be a unified voice," said PMSA spokesman Tupper Hull.
