Born Ellen Rico on February 12, 1931 in Scottsbluff, NE and moved to California at the age of 11 with her family. She graduated Valedictorian from Lincoln High School in Los Angeles. She moved toPasadena after her marriage, raising nine children while learning computer programming on the job at Cal Tech.
