Eight pigs in a pit of controversy will have at least another month to graze on the Appleton property.

The conservation commission, which oversees the town land, has delayed a vote on the pigs' fate until its next meeting.

Vincent Bucca, who leases the field in exchange for maintaining it, says the pigs can do what machines cannot: they pull up roots and stones while also fertilizing the land for farming.

But neighbor Eliot Beal has complained of noise and foul smells waft...
