Harry Patch, the country's oldest veteran soldier has finally joined the Royal British Legion.

Mr Patch, 109, of Wells, the last survivor of the World War I trenches, attended his first meeting in February.

Wells Royal British Legion discovered that Mr Patch, who lives at Fletcher House, was not a member of the legion 10 years ago, and invited him to become an honorary member, presenting him with a badge and tie, but his membership of the organisation was never made official.
