Nottinghamshire Police to have first woman chief constable

The first woman chief constable of Nottinghamshire was announced yesterday.

Julia Hodson, at present Deputy Chief Constable of West Yorkshire, is to take over the reins from Steve Green when he retires in June.

The coalminer's daughter from Derbyshire said she was "thrilled to bits" with her new role.

Ms Hodson, 51, was appointed acting chief constable of West Yorkshire Police in September 2006, following the retirement of the late Colin Cramphorn.
