The shire horse could soon disappear from Britain after serving
human needs for hundreds of years, an enthusiast has warned.
Breeders say there are just 3,500 shire horses left in Britain,
down from 6,000 ten years ago.
Ken Young, a leading member of the Shire Horse Society (SHS),
said: "The extinction of British shire horses is a distinct
possibility - we have to do something now rather than wait until it
is too late, which could be within ten years."
