Call for car cellphone ban; Two innocent lives lost - judge; Distraction blamed

A judge has called for a ban on drivers using cellphones after
sentencing a drunk driver who killed an elderly Ashburton couple
while texting.
A lawyer for the family of dairy worker Robert John Stonestreet,
20, said the Stonestreets hoped lessons could be taken from the
tragedy, including considering banning cellphone use while driving.
Stonestreet was sentenced in the Christchurch District Court
yesterday to nine months home detention and was disqualified from
