The kid stood atop the hill at the center of the diamond with the ball in his hand, on a brilliant Florida afternoon, and for a moment the world, at least the one defined by the walls of City of Palms Park, revolved around Clay Buchholz. Tall and lanky, Buchholz made for a solid, sturdy axis, and it is a good thing -- because in a sense, the future of the Boston Red Sox, the defending World Series champions, revolves around him as well.

Just 23, Buchholz is by some accounts the best pitching prospect in baseball, and this season he could become the next homegrown product to rise to stardom ...
