A U-turn by the French government has granted a reprieve to more than 7,500 British expats threatened with the removal of state health cover.

The volte-face comes after The Sunday Telegraph highlighted the plight of Vanessa Brown, who was to be denied life-saving cancer treatment when the French authorities changed the rules governing access to the state healthcare system.
