Routine maintenance keeps pool water clear, healthy

With summer come all those backyard barbecues and, for those with pools, swim parties.

But if you haven't done any basic pool maintenance recently, don't think you'll be able to jump right into the water. Your pool will need some basic TLC to get it ready.

Winter brings an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality for some pool owners, says Jimmy Wilson, a sales manager at Gordo's Pool City in Modesto, Calif. During that time, pool maintenance "just kind of goes by the wayside."
