After four years of dedication and devotion 16-year-old Michael Swinford has become a black belt.

The Chi Wai Black Belt Academy student prepared for his grading over 12 months and Master Sifu Lee Kent was delighted to see him pass.

"Altogether there were 20 different segments and each required Mike to show his skill, control, knowledge and adaptability.

"He worked really hard through the whole grade and two hours later had completed it. Si-ing Mark Burrows and myself went into the office to discuss the grade and add the marks up to see if he'd passed - he required 80 per cent.
