Almanacs brought health care and astrology to the masses

Next time you pick up a copy of Foulsham's Original Old Moore's
Almanack have a look at the year it appeared - 1697. More than 300
years on, it's still published with its predictions, weather guide,
sun and moon tables and guides to gardening fishing and racing.
Old Moore's is now the only almanac of its kind, yet from 1550
to the early 1800s hundreds of thousands of almanacs were updated
and published every year. They were cheap booklets that were studied
by everyone who could read across the whole country, and they were
read aloud to those who were illiterate.
