FOREVER A TEACHER John Ash values that role above his many others

John Ash has a basketful of titles: celebrity chef, restaurateur, syndicated columnist, award-winning author, artist, father of wine country cuisine.

But the title he treasures above all is teacher.

"I will teach for the rest of my life," Ash said. He loves the immediate feedback he gets in teaching, saying it provides him with "much more personal gratification" than working daily in a restaurant.

Ash no longer toils behind the stove at his award-winning restaurant in California's wine country and now devotes most of his time sharing his wealth of knowledge on food and wines with students.
