Neighbouring PO customers puzzled at contrasting closures

A Postmaster in a Highland community is facing enforced closure, while Post Office bosses spend time and money trying to save a branch less than a mile away, it emerged yesterday.

Graham Hughes, postmaster at Maryburgh post office, which is earmarked for closure under current plans, said it "beggars belief" no compromise can be reached, after Post Office Ltd yesterday announced the temporary closure of the nearby Conon Bridge branch.

The Conon Bridge closure comes as the result of the voluntary resignation of subpostmistress Lyn Kneller.
