Recall effort fails, but scrutiny persists ; Petition drive to oust Selectman Kenney fell 118 signatures short

They may have fallen short of their goal of putting a recall of Selectman Maureen Kenney on the ballot, but organizers of the petition drive feel they brought a change to the town.

"People told us that this thing has awakened them to what is going on in the town. This has made them angry," said Jack Smolokoff of the Committee to Recall Maureen Kenney. "If people go right back to sleep, we've failed."

David Harris, co-chairman of the committee, said the result of the petition drive was a "vote of no confidence" in Kenney.

"If I was her, I'd certainly consider resigning," Harris said. ...
