City's tourist information centre faces axe

The last of Plymouth's tourist information centres is set to be axed under a plan being considered by the city council on March 3, writes Political Reporter Keith Rossiter.

The centre, on the Barbican, will be closed on April 1, according to senior city sources, and staff at the centre have already been told that their jobs are threatened.

Richard Smith, of Plymouth Gin and the city's Chamber of Commerce, said: "I understand that the tourist information centre will close on April 1. It will leave us without any presence at all in what is one of the six priority sectors in the city's economic ...
