University Orientation Week now a carbon-neutral event

An environmentally friendly university flat, or a carbon- neutral Orientation Week? Yeah, right.

But Canterbury University students are putting a new focus on sustainability, right down to a bottle recycling day.

University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA) president Michael Goldstein said the Orientation Week organising crew had been working on several ideas to give the event a greener tinge.

These included providing biodegradable cups and plates, minimising waste through recycling, encouraging cycling and car- pooling and buying $2000 of carbon credits to offset emissions. Costs ...
