Soldiers awarded pounds3,420 bonus in pay deal

Scottish soldiers heading for Afghanistan will be entitled to a
minimum pounds3,420 bonus under a UK Government pay deal announced
last night.
The "danger money" is made up of a tax-free operational allowance
of pounds2,320 - if their tour overseas lasts the expected six
months - plus at least pounds1,100 longer separation allowance.
The allowances are being increased as part of an overall 2.6% pay
rise recommended by the Armed Forces Pay Review Body which Defence
