'Blue haze' inquiry narrows to John Amos

Investigators continue to try to piece together what caused a smelly blue haze that hung over the Kanawha Valley a week ago.

Federal and state environmental officials say they are all but certain that the material came from American Electric Power's John Amos Power Plant, across the Kanawha River from Poca.

Government inspectors and engineers say they believe Amos emissions were trapped close to the valley by an unusually strong weather system.

However, state Department of Environmental Protection officials still don't have concrete answers to many important questions.
