Thick fog leaves festive airline passengers on a wing and a prayer

THICK fog and freezing temperatures caused misery for travellers looking to make a Christmas getaway.

Poor visibility meant several flights were delayed from taking off at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports yesterday.

The foggy conditions also meant some incoming flights had to be diverted away from Scotland's two busiest air hubs.

A record 3.5 million people are due to leave the icy UK and head abroad this festive season.
