In one week, we will observe a celestial milestone that
stargazing humans have celebrated in one form or another for
centuries. Feb. 2 roughly marks the halfway point between the winter
solstice and the spring equinox, when our weather fortune turns a
corner and a little flicker of anticipation for spring begins to
tickle at winter's harsh edge.
