Film star is named as Niger delta peace hope

The vicious Nigerian militant group responsible for the kidnapping of dozens of Scottish oil workers have named who they want to broker peace in the volatile Niger Delta - Hollywood star George Clooney.

The Ocean's 11 star was made a United Nations "messenger of peace" earlier this month to promote the organisation's peacekeeping activities around the world.

His campaigning to stop the conflict in Darfur, Sudan, brought him high praise from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
